Skinny Puppy's full-length follow-up to REMISSION, BITES finds industrial music's staunch anti-vivisectionists ripping the guts out of the studio and their equipment. The challenging, brave, and controversial horror-show music they created has yet to be eclipsed.
Nivek Ogre snarls, gnarls, and chews his way through the black sequencer ballet of "Assimilate." As he approaches "Dead Lines," Ogre gets up close and personal with microprocessors gone amok and a battalion of synth basslines. Ogre lets us know, in no uncertain terms, that there may not be a "Tomorrow" if it's wrapped in quacking, de-feathered electronics programmed from a computer's chirping death throes. Main electronics man Cevin Key taps into a frightening universe of disturbing music and motion, capturing Ogre's lyrics in a surreal, almost Dali-esque portrait of Lovecraftian proportions. In all manners of the word, BITES is awesome.
